 Un libro che considero a scatola chiusa perchè Dyer è intelligente e scrive adattando la sua scrittura alla vita, sia che scriva romanzi, saggi o racconti autobiografici non importa.
Geoff Dyer si è conquistato la devozione di un gruppo di attenti lettori grazie ai suoi insoliti romanzi, ma anche a una serie di opere difficilmente etichettabili: prima fra tutte, Natura morta con custodia di sax, un libro a metà tra il racconto e la riscrittura della vita dei grandi del jazz. Nel corso della sua lunga carriera Dyer ha firmato saggi brevi dedicati ai temi piú diversi: fotografia, scultura, cinema, letteratura, ma anche scritti di natura vagamente autobiografica. Il sesso nelle camere d'albergo raccoglie una parte di questa sua sorprendente produzione.
Venticinque anni di vita, ovvero venticinque anni di letture, ricordi, viaggi, incontri e disavventure. L'amore per una cantante indiana, con la voce da eterna ragazza, e quello per una donna bellissima intravista in un negozio; le camere d'albergo con il letto immenso e lo specchio a figura intera, che subito suscitano pensieri erotici; l'Algeria di Camus, che ormai esiste solo nei suoi libri e nel cuore di chi li ha letti. E l'Africa, raccontata dal genio spericolato di Kapuscinski... Con l'intelligenza del critico e la passione del narratore, Dyer ci attrae nel suo mondo, e ci dice che l'unico modo per capire e apprezzare la vita è essere curiosi, entusiasti e folli quanto basta.

In Brazil soccer is more than just a sport. It is hope for a better future, a distraction from drab everyday life, creator of identity and community, something that makes sense. If there is no ball around, people kick fruit or cans; when there is no field, they make one. Soccer marks the soul of the Brazilian people, as well as the image of city and landscape. Any land that is somewhat level and not overgrown or built up becomes a soccer field. Even though there may be a lack of meeting places, parks, or village centers, there is always a campo de pelada. In this volume, two Brazilian photographers seek and find soccer in places where one might not expect to find it.
Leonardo Finotti creates a kind of inventory, showing pictures from his series Campos Sagrados, for which he traveled through all of Brazil, to neighborhoods rich and poor, to industrial zones, urban peripheries, and to the country, to take photographs from an elevated standpoint of temporary and “real” soccer fields and their surroundings.
In his photo series Brasilieiros Futebol Clube Ed Viggiani accompanies his fellow countrymen everywhere where soccer is played or a team followed.




Guy Debord
Questa cattiva reputazione

Scrittore, cineasta, uomo politico, personaggio difficilmente etichettabile, Guy Debord nasce nel 1931 a Parigi e muore suicida nel 1994. Nel 1957, a Cosio d'Arroscia, Debord partecipa alla fondazione dell'Internazionale Situazionista, che unisce una serie di movimenti artistici europei in una critica radicale della società capitalistica e dell'industria culturale. Nel 1967 scrive il suo capolavoro, La società dello spettacolo, destinato ad avere vasta eco mondiale soprattutto dopo i movimenti di rivolta del maggio 1968. Scritto dopo Panegirico (Castelvecchi, Roma 2005), Cette mauvaise réputation (Gallimard, Paris 1993) è l'ultimo titolo pubblicato da Debord e ne rappresenta un proseguimento nel quale rivela ancora considerazioni sul proprio pensiero in contrapposizione alla miriade di luoghi comuni pubblicati sulla sua figura.

In questa sede, mi è piaciuto citarmi in più occasioni. Non ignoro che molti troveranno questo fatto scioccante. Però nessuno sarebbe turbato - e non sarebbe neanche stato utile farmi questa cattiva reputazione - se mi fossi trovato, come gli altri, nell'impossibilità di citare ancora oggi quello che avevo pensato in precedenza. Per ravvivare i rimpianti di quelli che non hanno capito al momento giusto, aggiungerò che ciò che vi era di più ammirevole nella citazione che ho appena ricordato era nella terribile verità delle parole: "il centro stesso del mondo esistente".

Si todo lo que nos rodea está haciéndose 'global', lo mismo está pasando con las ciudades. Así, ciudades con diferencias importantes de población, territorio, historia y cultura experimentan transformaciones muy similares y acaban produciendo un tipo de paisaje estandarizado. Ya sea en las áreas urbanas dedicadas al consumo, el entretenimiento o el turismo global, ya en las periferias residenciales suburbanas, el paisaje que observamos muestra el resultado de una urbanización banal, puesto que se puede repetir y replicar con absoluta ubicuidad y con independencia del lugar. Más que de urbanización podemos hablar entonces de urbanalización
Este libro propone una explicación general de estos procesos, considerando la transformación del paisaje en relación con cambios sociales y culturales y con la política urbana en cuatro ciudades -Londres, Berlín, Buenos Aires y Barcelona- que ilustran diferentes itinerarios de urbanalización.

From the late Herbert Muschamp, the former architecture critic of The New York Times and one of the most outspoken and influential voices in architectural criticism, a collection of his best work.
The pieces here—from The New Republic, Artforum, and The New York Times—reveal how Muschamp’s views were both ahead of their time and timeless. He often wrote about how the right architecture could be inspiring and uplifting, and he uniquely drew on film, literature, and popular culture to write pieces that were passionate and often personal, changing the landscape of architectural criticism in the process. These columns made architecture a subject accessible to everyone at a moment when, because of the heated debate between modernists and postmodernists, architecture had become part of a larger public dialogue. One of the most courageous and engaged voices in his field, he devoted many columns at the Times to the lack of serious new architecture in this country, and particularly in New York, and spoke out against the agenda of developers. He departed from the usual dry, didactic style of much architectural writing to playfully, for example, compare Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Bilbao to the body of Marilyn Monroe or to wax poetic about a new design for Manhattan’s manhole covers. One sees in this collection that Muschamp championed early on the work of Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid, Thom Payne, Frank Israel, Jean Nouvel, and Santiago Calatrava, among others, and was drawn to the theoretical writings of such architects as Peter Eisenman. Published here for the first time is the uncut version of his brilliant and poignant essay about gay culture and Edward Durrell Stone’s museum at 2 Columbus Circle. Fragments from the book he left unfinished, whose title we took for this collection—“A Dozen Years,” “Metroscope,” and “Atomic Secrets”—are also included.

 Da quasi trent'anni, Joan Fontcuberta, fotografo, ma anche artista plastico, saggista, storico, critico, giornalista, laureatosi in Scienze del linguaggio dell'informazione e della comunicazione, sviluppa un'opera che interroga in tutti gli aspetti e le conseguenze il valore narrativo dell'immagine. Un'opera tanto singolare che è difficile caratterizzarla in una parola, senza sminuirla, un'opera che costituisce un grande contributo alla domanda della verità sull'arte. Il modo con cui inventa personaggi, uomini o animali, situazioni improbabili, sviluppa miti e leggende, sviandoli a favore di un immaginario in costante movimento, lascia il lettore sbalordito. Arguto, seppur profondamente rigoroso, questo artista inclassificabile non smette di sovvertire i codici del linguaggio iconografico e di mettere in dubbio la percezione che ne abbiamo.

Over the sixty years of his artistic career, Gerhard Richter (* 1932 in Dresden) has produced a standardsetting oeuvre whose thematic and stylistic diversity has no equal among the art of our time. This extensive monograph is the first to present the complete range of the numerous works Richter realized as series, cycles, and spaces. It includes figurative paintings, such as landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, many of which are based on photographs, such as the series S. and Child, a personal and intimate variation on the traditional subject of the Madonna and Child. It also features abstract works, for which Richter draws from a changing repertoire of forms and colors to produce both small and monumental paintings. This generously sized volume reveals an astonishing spectrum of Richter’s paintings in all of their dimensions and techniques.

The Zurich-based architects and partners Alex Lehnerer and Savvas Ciriacidis view their work as a cultural practice that fundamentally assumes a (self-)critical stance towards the present. In Chicago, for instance, the architects proposed filling a hole left over from an unfinished skyscraper with a gigantic hot air balloon, which would then rise up into the air as a satirical commentary on a construction project that failed due to the bursting of the financial and real-estate bubble in 2010. The two commissioners of the German pavilion interpret Artistic Director Rem Koolhaas’s theme of Absorbing Modernity 1914–2014 by examining the speculative reality of architecture through two protagonists, the Kanzlerbungalow [Chancellor Bungalow] and the German Pavilion. Their architectural installation in the pavilion transforms a historical retrospective into an experiment that is shaped by the intersection of material, space, and meaning.

 Pasolini e l'interrogazione del sacro

Cose divine è, in Pasolini, l'altro nome del sacro. Rimanda al senso dell'ulteriore, dell'eccedente (ma per ciò stesso anche del primigenio e dell'autentico) rispetto alla capacità di comprensione, controllo e realizzazione degli uomini. Ben prima delle grossolane distinzioni tra fede e scienza, tra credenti e non credenti, il sacro è la dimensione da cui attingono e verso cui tendono l'aspirazione al bello e al buono, la capacità di stupirsi, la sete d'amore, la pietas solidale, l'anelito di giustizia, la consapevolezza del tanto di misterioso che ogni vita possiede. Il sacro come domanda, non corredo di riposte; il sacro come attesa e scarto. Per Pasolini un doppio impegno: su un versante lo sguardo sulle cose divine che si rivelano nell'ambiguità, ma anche la loro spoliazione e il ritrarsi sconfitto dell'innocenza di fronte al cancro del consumismo (anche del consumismo del sacro) e di fronte al potere di un'economia e di una tecnica che non mostrano altro fine che l'autopotenziamento; sull'altro versante, lo sforzo disperato di preservarne «il senso» attraverso la dissacrazione degli idoli sostitutivi. La «scandalosa ricerca» di Pasolini lascia come eredità preziosa una rinnovata fioritura di simboli e miti che da sempre germogliano sulla frattura che si crea tra il tragico tempo della storia e i tempi delle origini e del non-ancora. Ed è questo il Pasolini «estremo» che qui si intende perlustrare da diverse angolazioni disciplinari, raccogliendo e riposizionando i contributi di antropologi, italianisti e studiosi di cinema che sono stati coinvolti a Casarsa e a Bologna in due distinti e complementari convegni nel novembre del 2011, in collaborazione tra il Centro Studi Pier Paolo Pasolini di Casarsa e il Centro Studi-Archivio della Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna.
